Commissioner Rod Cleveland has been appointed to three national policy steering committees with the National Association of Counties. NACo President, Denise Winfrey stated, that Commissioner Rod Cleveland was chosen because of my goal is to build a talented and committed leadership team for NACo and his leadership within the State of Oklahoma.  Our strength at NACo is in our members and their involvement.

“I am honored to be appointed to these significant policy committees and this task force.  Participating in these policy discussions is an important role as an elected official bringing Oklahoma conservative values to the national discussion,” Cleveland said.NACo Appointment Letter

Commissioner Cleveland was appointed to the three committees: International Economic Development Task Force, Rural Action Caucus, and as Subcommittee Chair of the subcommittee, Workforce Development within the policy committee – Community, Economic and Workforce Development Steering Committee.

NACo supports federal policies and programs that equip county governments with the resources and flexibility needed to effectively serve our residents. NACo works to preserve local decision-making and protect counties from unfunded mandates and preemption of the local authority. Since counties implement many federal programs at the local level and must enforce many federal regulations, NACo encourages meaningful intergovernmental consultation with counties throughout all federal policy, program, and regulatory development processes.

The Community, Economic, and Workforce Development Steering Committee is responsible for all matters pertaining to housing, community and economic development, public works, and workforce development.  This includes the creation of affordable housing and housing options for different populations, residential, commercial, and industrial development.  Cleveland will be the Workforce Development subcommittee chair.  This subcommittee works on federal policies and funding for workforce training.  The current federal program is Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act.

The Rural Action Caucus is the voice for America’s rural counties.  Oklahoma is made up of a majority of rural counties and nearly two-thirds of the nation’s 3,069 counties are designated as rural, with a combined population of 60 million.  Cleveland’s appointment to the Rural Action Committee shows his proven leadership for not just Cleveland County, but for all of Oklahoma.

The International Economic Development Task Force is to promote U.S. products and services to the global economy.  This task force provides advocacy and information to counties on international trade opportunities.  More information.
