For Audra and Brian Skaggs, a new home could have not come any sooner.  Extreme Home Makeover picked the Skaggs family for the heart felt story of their son, Jhett that had to have a heart transplant as a toddler. After weeks of planning and secrecy, Ty Pennington and the popular TV show’s design team surprised the Skaggs family Monday morning in Lexington with a knock on their door. Brian Skaggs, a cattle raiser, and his wife, Audra, a preschool teacher, have two young children, Merit, 5, and Jhett, 3.  Jhett survived a rare and risky heart transplant as an infant. He has made great progress the past two years, but the poor condition of the family’s home poses serious risks to his weakened immune system. Plans to build a new home had to be put on hold when Jhett was about 8 months old and his health started deteriorating.

Ideal Homes of Norman stepped up to be the General Contractor and coordinator of all the donations and volunteers.  Many Cleveland County businesses were ask to donate their labor and materials for the home.  My family volunteered also, Christine helped the design producers with shopping.  On move in night Christine and my daughter Kenady and I helped with the move in.  This was a great time.  I thank all that donated and volunteered.  Specially all that participated in the hospitality.  The food for the volunteers and laborers was never ending and fantastic.
