This decision of Sheriff Beggs comes as a shock to me. I know how excited he was to serve as the President of the National Sheriff’s Association. I have not made any decisions as to a replacement for the sheriff position. I have asked assistant District Attorney Dave Batton to explore the commissioners’ options according to state law. I welcome anybody that would want to seek running for sheriff. The board of County Commissioners should have a course of action by the next meeting.
