We share the same county name of Cleveland and we share they great compassion of the residents that live in both counties. Cleveland County NC residents have sent volunteers, money and supplies of the victims of the May 18th and 19th tornadoes that hit Oklahoma City, Moore, Norman and the Little Axe area.
Cleveland County is adopting a sister.
Commissioners adopted a resolution Tuesday to adopt Cleveland County, Okla., and recognize the local residents who helped in tornado relief.
A tornado hit the Moore area May 20, killing several dozen people.
Since, Cleveland County residents have collected food and supplies to support storm victims.
“We want to create a dialogue with their county,” said commissioner Jason Falls. “My hope is to make this a long-term relationship where we share information between the two counties.”
After the tornado in Moore, Okla., local commissioners received text messages and phone calls from people throughout the county asking how they could help.

OK, Cleveland County, it’s that time again.
We’ve learned through the years that there is no limit to this community’s heart. Whether it be record-breaking United Way giving or honoring a fallen solider, when it’s time to give, Cleveland County always answers the call.
Now comes another opportunity. Remember when we adopted Laurel, Miss., in the wake of Katrina?
We chose that town because it was a community so similar to the ones in which we live and because we were all so desperate to help in the wake of the hurricane’s devastation.
Well, while Moore is the name of the town in Oklahoma where Monday’s monster tornado struck, guess the name of the county in which Moore resides?
That’s right, Cleveland County, Okla. Whether providence or happenstance, let’s take that as a sign that we are called to help.
Surely you’ve seen the grim pictures from the elementary school where children perished. And the photographs of foundation slabs, which are all that is left of what used to be homes.
