The tornado of May 20th, 2013 in Moore Oklahoma and South OKC is going to have a tremendous monetary impact on not only the residents but on sales tax collections for the City of Moore and in property tax collections. At current estimates by the Cleveland County Assessor’s Office, nearly 4,000 personal and business structures are destroyed or majorly damaged. Compared with a little over 300 in the May 3rd, 1999 tornado.
The estimated assessed value of these properties is $80,000,000. This is the assessed value not the market value. Market Value will be much higher. There is an estimate of $9,000,000 of effected tax dollars from ad valorem. This will affect Moore Public Schools, Cleveland County Health Department, Pioneer Library System, and Cleveland County Government.
