Cleveland County Board of Commissioners voted on May 31, 2011 to approve a resolution to post the Nation Motto “In God We Trust.”
RESOLUTION
A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF CLEVELAND COUNTY IN THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA, SUPPORTING THE NATIONAL MOTTO “IN GOD WE TRUST” AND AUTHORIZING ITS DISPLAY ACCORDING TO LAW.
WHEREAS, “In God We Trust” became the United States Nation Motto on July 30, 1956, shortly after our Nation led the world through the trauma of World War II (36 U.S.C. § 302); and,
WHEREAS, the Motto and/or its words have been used on U.S. currency dating back to 1864( 31 U.S.C. § 5112(d)(1); and on paper currency since 1957(31 U.S.C. § 51124(b); and,
WHEREAS, the same inspiring slogan is engraved above the entrance to the Senate Chamber as well as above the Speaker’s dais in the House of Representatives; and,
WHEREAS, in both war and peace, these words have been a profound source of patriotic strength and guidance to many generations of Americans; and,
WHEREAS, the Motto symbolizes the historic role of the Motto in our society, fosters patriotism and expresses confidence in our Notion’s future; and,
WHEREAS, Cleveland County desires to affirm its support of the National Motto by authorizing its display according to law in the Board of County Commissioners’ meeting room or other public buildings as a way to express confidence in our society and National government.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED the Board of County Commissioners of Cleveland County do hereby resolve to affirm and continue its support of the historic and patriotic words of our National Motto, “IN GOD WE TRUST,” which, according to law, should be authorized to be permanently and prominently displayed in the Board of County Commissioners’ meeting room or other public buildings.
PASSED, APRROVED and ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the Board of County Commissioners of Cleveland County on this 31st day of May, 2011.
